Our Brave Heros
It sure makes you stop and think about all these brave people who protect us, and then when they come home, they struggle to fit in with ordinary life or they find themselves in difficulty!
A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE,
MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY,
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO,
IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES,
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT,
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR,
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED,
AN AUSTRALIAN SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO,
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES,
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS,
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE,
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM,
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER,
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE,
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT,
A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES,
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED,
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY LAW."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL,
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED,
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE,
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR,
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."
This poem was written by an Australian
Peacekeeping soldier stationed overseas. The following is
His request. I think it is reasonable
PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favour of
Sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be
Coming soon and some credit is due to all of the service men
And women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.
Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we
Owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and
Dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.
Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.
Regardless of our political persuasions, regardless of our colour, creed or religion, regardless of our age or our sex, we undoubtedly owe our freedom and safety to our heroes in the forces, I for one spent some quiet time today thinking of those brave men and women in foreign lands, far from home.
I have taken Tracey's words and copied them as the words that she has used are perfect!

What a time I have had ......
Then Wednesday DH really wasn't feeling good, he also started vomiting. So that was two down with the bug. So that was Aimee and DH not eating. Wednesday night Chloe started vomiting, so that was 3 down. I was running around cleaning up, going to work and cooking food that no-one was eating.
On top of all this I had a lot of assessments and write ups to do for college. I manged to get all this done on Wednesday night, yeah!!! Even though I did stay up until about 3:00 am!!!
Everyone is back to normal today, thank goodness. I have managed to do some crafting, but alot of it I can't show, as those who are receiving it read my blog! So once Christmas is over I will post up pics of all that I have made.
So I apologise if I haven't visited your blog lately, but I have been up to my eyes in it. Over the next few days I am hoping to catch up with everyone.

THOSE BORN 1920-1979
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.And we were OK.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! So, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!
I have just found this on Tracey's blog. OMG it is so true, I was a tomboy, climbing trees, using plastic fertilizer bags to slide down the road in the winter, disappearing for hours in the nearby woods and HEY I am still here none the worse for all that!! Just goes to show how small the world is getting day by day!!!

Cute gift certificate holder!
I entered in one of the challenges set by the shop's forum using the Paper Paradise kit for July, which is designed by Tracey Click here to have a peek at the layouts Tracey has designed and Click Here to see the entries! As this was the first challenge using the kits, and unfortunately only 3 of us entered, we all got a gift voucher for £5.00 to spend in the shop.
I am thinking maybe she should make some pre-made ones for all the different occasions and sell them in the shop, how much more prettier is this than a plain white envelope?????

On Wednesday Sue and Tracey delivered 20 boxes full of stash to the library the local paper was there, and the children's and Debbie's faces just said it all!!!
Even though my two girls have only being going for a couple of weeks they love it and can't wait for Tuesdays to come around!
The local community has been fantastic at collecting stash for the children to work with!! Sue and Tracey are going to keep a box in their storeroom and keep accepting stash for them and deliver it up to the library every time it fills up, so hopefully the children will always have something to use!!!

Fairy Day

As I was commenting on some photos in SB.com one of the players Cjy posted that today is fairy day and added a beautiful piece of journaling!!
"I want to say Happy Fairy Day to all of you. June 24th is Fairy Day.
Whatever your favorite theory, Fairy Day is a time for all of us, fairy kissed or no, to honor and delight in the fanciful, the mystical, the ethereal in our lives. Throughout mans history, Midsummers Day has been known as a time to revel in the magic of nature. It is one of the few “in between” times, when the veil is drawn thinnest and crossing between the worlds is at its easiest. This day, the longest of the year is known for odd things happening to unwitting mortals, victims of the fairies playful games. It is at this time that fairies may be seen, dancing round rings, or that mortals with the desire and a pure heart may meet a fae out walking in the woods"

A funny poem
Wife says to husband...
"Look - I got invited to a 'party' and I won't have to buy a basket, or jewelry, or candles, or even another plastic container!
This party is different because I'm going to MAKE a page for a scrapbook!
I'm going to learn how to put all those pictures we keep in a box into a photo album that will last lifetimes!"
FOR YEARS AFTERWARDS what can be heard in the home:
-"How much can a pair of scissors cost? And why do you need an entire cutting system if you bought scissors?"
-"The photo album was HOW MUCH? You HAD to get a paper trimmer too?
Then please tell me ... what are the scissors for?"
-"How many magazines do you need to buy to be INSPIRED? And what's with all this paper?"
-"You want what for your birthday? A Xyron? What the heck is Xyron?"
-"I don't understand why you need a digital camera. The 35mm I bought
after college works just fine."
-"OUCH!!!! I just stepped on one of your %&*(*&% eyelets! "
-"MORE paper? You haven't even used up what you got already!"
-"First the camera, then the printer, what's next a scanner?"
-"I see ... so if we get these Target cubes you'll be able to see the paper you have and then you won't have to buy anymore?"
-"Son, how many times have I told you - You CANNOT play with Mommy’s tools!"
-"I don't get it...why do we have to go to Lowes to get paint chips if we aren't doing any painting around here?"
-"Don't worry sweetie...we won't tell Mommy you borrowed her stickers to make Barbie look pretty."
-"You had a 40% off coupon and you still spent over $100??"
-"What do you need all this yarn for? You don't even knit! Do you?"
-"No dear. I do not know how to scan and stitch. Maybe someone on YOUR message board can help you there."
-"Who took Daddy's sandpaper?"
-"It's 11PM. Isn't that layout done YET?"
-"Shhh ...don't tell Daddy that Mommy borrowed his sandpaper."
-"Yes, I guess we can stop at that cute little scrapbook store during our vacation."
-"You're going to take a ********? I meant going to a crop... never mind."
-"NO MOMMY! NO MORE PICTURES! NO MORE PICTURES! NO MORE PICTURES!"
-"So who is this Becky Higgins and what's the big deal about her? She an actress or something?"
-"I thought you already had a sewing machine. So what's this one for?"
-"No..I've never printed on vellum before..YES..I can help you figure out the right printer settings..but what the heck is vellum?"
-"Queen of the week doesn't mean you won't still make dinner, right? Right? Whew."
-"You just joined a what? A swap? I'm really happy for you honey."
-"MORE paper? What's so special about this '
And the hardest one of all...
-"Where did all these boxes of pictures come from...I thought you were going to put them all in a scrapbook! "

Ode to my Wife, the Scrapbooker Cropper!
Thanks for sharing Crazy Scrapbooker !
Her shapes were going fine.
She forgot to thaw our dinner,
So we went out to dine...
She added die-cuts on Tuesday,
She says they really are a must.
They actually were quite lovely,
But she forgot to dust...
On Wednesday it was stickers,
She says the designs are fun.
What highlights,what shadows!!
But the laundry wasn't done...
Her journaling was on Thursday,
With Pigma pens, including red.
I guess she really was engrossed,
She never made the bed..
It was more acid-free paper on Friday,
In colors that she adores.
It never bothered her at all,
The crumbs on the floor...
I found a maid on Saturday,
My week is now complete.
My wife can crop the hours away,
The house will still be neat...
Well, it's already Sunday,
But don't call me a great Pop.
I cursed! @#$, I raved *#@, I ranted!!!
The maid has learned to CROP!!!
